Canker Sore

Tensi…. Tensi.. minggu ni saya merana dek canker sore. Aphthous ulcer. In Malay, ‘mulut pecah’. Huh, pedihnya sungguh berdengung! Sampai tak termampu nak buka mulut utk jampikan si Suhaib yang menigau-nigau pukul 4 pagi kelmarin.

Some info about canker sore (just like Dr Faizah had told me- I really admire her..):

What causes canker sores?

Factors that appear to provoke them include stress, fatigue, illness, injury from accidental biting, hormonal changes, menstruation, sudden weight loss, food allergies and deficiencies in vitamin B12 (B complex), iron and folic acid (Patutlah. Minggu ni asyik sakit kepala gilerr!)

Addition. Ulcers also can be caused by bug bites and animal bites (Mcm mana ini boleh berlaku?? Takutnyerrrr….)

What steps can be taken to help canker sores?

  1. Avoid abrasive foods such as potato chips that can stick in the cheek or gum and aggravate the sores.
  2. Take care when brushing your teeth not to stab the gums or cheek with a toothbrush bristle.
  3. Avoid acidic and spicy foods.
  4. Canker sores are not infectious, so patients do not have to worry about spreading them to other people.
  5. Use a toothpaste free of sodium lauryl sulfate and other ingredients that are irritating to the tissues inside the mouth can be helpful.
What medications advised by my doctor?

  1. Anti-inflammatory (steroid) gels to reduce the inflammation. The main ingredient in this medication is triamcinolone.
  2. Vitamin B complex
